About Us
Welcome to the Gourmet's Lair, the Highland Deli, now on the web. Here,
you'll find more information about us and what we do.
Who are we?
The Gourmet's Lair, throughout its history, has
remained a family-owned Delicatessen business. Currently run by Maureen
& Callum, we pride ourselves on being a working deli, not an expensive
gift shop. We see ourselves as firmly routed in the Highlands & Islands
of Scotland - we understand the Geography and distributing perishable
goods, we like to think we understand people's tastes in the area, and
pride ourselves in going that little step extra... Oh, and having an extensive
range of delights for the tastebuds!
What we do
The finest and widest choice of cheese in the Highlands (many matured
on, plus Scottish cheeses), a superb range of olives, charcuterie (salami's,
hams, paté, wild boar, venison, rare breed hen's eggs...oh, and
tastings of the famous Haggis herd's that roam windspept hill and heather..),
coffee, and accompanying ingredients. And, dare I say it (being a lad
from Lankyshire where Black Puddin' s King), the finest Pud outside the
Motherland - Charly Barley's from Stornoway!
Whilst we focus purely on the Highlands and Islands, we accept that others
from "doun Sooth" may have come to learn of our refined taste,
or may be poor unfortunate exiles desparate for real food - if we can
help, give us a call!
History
Founded some ten years ago by Iain & Yvonne MacAllistair, the Gourmet's
Lair has always prided itself on being a working Deli, not an expensive
gift shop. Taken over in 2003 by Maureen and Callum, it has remained a
family-owned business, striving to bring good food at affordable prices
to the Highlands of Scotland. Based for most of this time at 8 Union Street,
Inverness, it became a feature of the City Centre.
Latterly, we found the costs associated with running a City-centre deli
spiralling out of control. This led us to re-evaluate how we could best
serve the far-flung population of the Highlands and Islands, and we decided
to concentrate on mail order and the web. This is especially appropriate
for the Highlands, as most of our customers seldom if ever visited the
shop! Now we can focus on bringing the Deli to you, not the other way
around.
